About the Artist
For over 20 years, Juan Carlos Frias has worked with a variety of durable and repurposed articles to create unique artwork for public enjoyment. Juan Carlos used resilient fiberglass to create an octopus footrest for the Suite Home Chicago public art program and he upcycled aluminum soda cans to create tactile "feathers" for a birdhouse showcased through the Tweet Home Chicago community art program.
Public art and community service are in his blood. Whether instructing Chicago Public School students through the After School Matters art program, or mentoring local artists to paint community murals, Juan Carlos truly enjoys collaborating with neighbors and colleagues to create beautiful enduring artwork that instills wonder and pride in his community.
